The Danube or the long and winding road…
The title cartouche shows a depiction of the battle between the Austrian emperor Ferdinand III and the Turkish sultan. In the lower left-hand corner is a personification of the Danube river with it tributaries.
Original title: Danubius, Fluvius Europae Maximus, a Fontibus ad Ostia, Cum omnibus Fluminibus, ab utroque latere, in illum defluentibus.
Blaeu produced a similar map on the Rhine River.
